Welcome to American Top Team of Vero Beach, the Treasure Coast’s premiere Brazilian jiu jitsu and mixed martial arts academy. We are the home of Renato Tavares Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and offer more than 30 classes each week of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Submission Grappling, Mixed Martial Arts, and Conditioning. Our facility is 6000 square feet which includes a boxing ring, a MMA cage and over 2000 square feet of mats ensuring that you will have plenty of space to train.
American Top Team of Vero Beach is owned and run by Renato Tavares a world renowned Brazilian jiu jitsu practitioner who earned his black belt under the legendary Carlson Gracie. A master technician, Renato has competed for more than 30 years and won over 200 Grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu events, including World Championship, 2 Panamericans, Internationals, Nationals, and States. In 2009 he took 1st place in Florida States, Nationals, Pan American and Miami International Championships. The academy also has 4 other black belts on staff.

BLACK BELT 4TH DEGREE AMERICAN TOP TEAM (ATT) COACH:
Renato Tavares was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1968. He started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of 6 years old. In 1995 Renato Received his black belt in BJJ from the legendary Carlson Gracie. Renato has been teaching BJJ and Grappling to students from a wide variety of backgrounds including FBI Agents, Military, Police Officers and Athletes. As well as teaching Renato is a professional MMA fighter and is active on the grappling curcuit. He has many titles like International Champion, Pan American Champion, and many States Championships. Renato is regarded by many as one of the best BJJ practitioners as well as professor.
Kru Joel Garcia
Nickname: "Joker"
Joel is a Black Belt in Muay Thai . He started in martial arts with 4 years of training different fighting styles such as , Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing , Muay Thai and MMA. Joel has over 10 years of experience teaching Muay Thai for beginners and professional fighters.
Ethan Day
Ethan Day holds the rank of brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Master Renato Tavares of the American Top Team. Ethan has spent an accumulated 8 months in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil over the past few years training and competing. Additionally, Ethan spent six months in Shanghai, China teaching BJJ in 2008. Ethan is a Level III US Army Combative's Instructor and Master Instructor for the Air Force.

Eldridge Wynn
For Eldridge Wynn martial arts is a family affair. He, his wife Keesha, and their three children are all members of American Top Team- Vero Beach. Eldridge, who is also the scoutmaster for a local boy scout troop, assists with the Children's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Class – where he can always be found encouraging and motivating the young students.
Eldridge earned his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Master Renato Tavares and placed 1st in his division at the 2008 Continental Cup of BJJ and Grappling.
Don Christman
Don Christman has approximately 25 years of martial arts training and experience. He is the lead defensive tactics instructor for the treasure Coast Public Safety Complex and Police Academy. He has 16 years of Law Enforcement experience and is currently the team Leader for the Ft. Pierce Police Department SWAT team. He has instructed local, state and federal law enforcement officers throughout the country in defensive tactics, officer survival, hostage rescue and high risk special operations. He has also instructed members of the United States military in advanced defensive tactics and Close Quarters Battle. Don Christman is recognized by the 19th Judicial Circuit as an expert in Use of Force and has testified numerous times as an expert witness on Use of Force and self defense issues.

Zach Sanford
- SRHS Wrestling Team : earning 2 district championships, 2 conference championships and a state appearance his senior year
- Wrestled at the University of Central Florida, where he was a starter for all 4 years: 4X National Qualifier, 3X SEC Champion, 3X NCWA All-American, and a National Runner Up in the NCWA.
Zach has compiled over 130 wins and 74 pins in his collegiate career. After using up his eligibility, Zach stayed on as a volunteer coach with the team while he finished up his degree.
Igor Almeida
Born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Almeida is a Brazilian Jiu -Jitsu black belt under Eduardo Brigadeiro. He trained in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil for four years under Sergio Souza and Murillo Bustamante and continued his training in Florida for another eight. Almeida has been practicing mixed martial arts and Muay Thai since 2003; two of those years were at the Xtreme Couture facility in Florida.
Almeida has been teaching Brazilian Jiu - Jitsu for the past four years and has an MMA record of 11 wins by submission on the first round with two losses.

- Shaughn has been training BJJ, Muay Thai, and MMA for 6 years. He started at ATT Port Saint Lucie under black belt and UFC veteran Din Thomas. He won his first amateur fight. Shaughn received his blue belt in BJJ from Paul Rodriguez at ATT Orlando. He moved to Vero Beach 2 years ago and has been training under Renato Tavares. Shaughn is now training full time and has a 2-1 MMA record this year. In Shaughn's first pro fight he snapped the arm of journeyman, Jimi Chiakong. He also destroyed an opponent in an amateur match in Okeechobee, FL. That fight ended by KO in the first round. Shaughn refuses to have a boring fight and he has a never say die attitude.

Lil Ninjas - "Lil ninja" is a program produced by ATT Vero Beach. It consists of 4-6 year old boys and girls. In this class we teach Brazilian Jujitsu. We also give the children of our society a sense of focus and devotion to the sport. We also teach the children to respect your parents and others, set a long or short term commitment to something and not to give up and to give it your all. The little ninjas after just a couple of weeks will show immediate results. This will allow your child to be prepared for higher level jujitsu and excelling in life. Our goal is for the child to be dedicated to the sport and have a mind state of goal setting for their future endeavors, but most of all to have fun!
Junior Top Team - "Junior top team" is a program produced by Att Vero Beach. It consists of seven to thirteen year old boys and girls. In this class we teach Brazilian Jujitsu, Muay Thai, and Wrestling. In the Brazilian Jujitsu class we teach the basic Jujitsu from the side control position to even the triangle submission. In the Muay Thai class we teach the basic striking, footwork, and many more exciting activities. In the Wrestling portion of the class, we will teach takedowns from single leg to double etc. This class has everything to make the child become a well rounded Mixed Martial Artist and even helps the child from not being a victim of bulling. Our main objective in the class is to build the child's self-esteem and self respect. The lessons learned in this class will help the child on the Matts and in school; but most of all we will produce excellent citizens and members of the community.
Top Team Girls Self Defense- A class tailored for women and young girls how to prevent attacks and what to do in a real life attack situation.
Elite Top Team KIDS STRIKE- This class will just focus on standup fighting. Kids will practice there boxing and Muay Thai techniques under the supervision of our professional instructor. This class will give kids a chance to hone their standup skills.
